Wen Liu was born in Shanghai, China, and based in NY, USA. Her art is a collection of reactions to the environments and objects encountered to build her sense of security coming from a foreign land. Questions that drive her work include: What is temporary and what is permanent? What is your place in this temporality and permanence? How do you deal with public recollection versus private memories?
She is a DCASE Individual Artists Program Grantee for 2018, 2019 and 2020 and received the Illinois Arts Council Agency 2020 Artist Fellowship Award. She attended residencies at RAiR Foundation, MASS MoCA, Vermont Studio Center, ACRE and Center Program at Hyde Park Art Center. Her work has been exhibited at Dinner Gallery in NY, Roswell Museum in NM, the National Grand Theater in Beijing, China; Lubeznik Center for the Arts in Michigan City, 6018/North, Zhou B Art Center and Culture Center in Chicago.
